About Me

I'm Beth, let me introduce myself!

My Background

I am a qualified primary school teacher but left classroom teaching to pursue my passion of music education. For the last 8 years I have been working in primary schools in and around Greater Manchester as a Vocal Specialist and Musician in Residence for One Education Music. As part of this role I have provided music teacher training, created curriculum plans for all primary age groups including Nursery, and have taught some instrumental and vocal classes at secondary level. I have been lucky enough to be chosen to sing at events for hundreds of children at The Bridgewater Hall, the Royal Northern College of Music and the Royal Exchange Theatre as part of One Education's extensive events programme.

I also have a Masters degree in Musicology.

Before teaching, I spent a lot of time performing and operating behind the scenes for amateur dramatics groups - preferring to perform, but always helping out backstage where necessary, including in the orchestra pit!

I play the flute, piano, ukulele and have further skills on clarinet, saxophone and tin whistle. I love music theory as it fascinates me and listen to all genres of music.

I am also a parent to a feisty, music-loving 3 year old, with another one on the way!

Working with schools

In schools I have:

  • delivered weekly music curriculum classes to all primary year groups, from Nursery to Year 6

  • provided termly and yearly plans of whole school music provision

  • worked with Music Coordinators to ensure their school is providing varied and engaging music lessons, as well as opportunities for performance and appreciation. For instance, through in-house class recitals or school trips to historical concert venues

  • devised and facilitated teacher training in both vocal workshops and music curriculum planning and delivery

  • built strong relationships with staff and pupils

  • worked with classes on preparing for specific events, such One Education Singarounds or Come and Play with the Halle at The Bridgewater Hall.

  • sought personal development opportunities with various providers, ensuring my professional practice is up-to-date, relevant and of the highest standard.
